Sulphur, La. -

The Senior duo of Chip Armelin and Donovan Williams led the Sulphur Tors to a 66-42 win over Carencro in their season opener on Tuesday at home.

Armelin led all scorers with 29 points, while Williams controlled the lane on both sides of the ball with a double-double. Williams finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots.

“They had a lot of opportunities,” Sulphur head coach Clint LeBato said. “That is their role.

“Chip is going to be our scorer and Donovan is going to be our inside guy.”

The Bears tried to key on Armelin most of the game but he ended up going 15-of-18 from the free throw line. Sulphur shot 81 percent as a team from the free throw line.

LeBato was pleased the Tors’ performance in their season opener but Sulphur did struggle some with turnovers. After just two in the first quarter, Sulphur finished with over 15.

“We were a little rusty on the offensive end but overall we played hard,” LeBato said. “We had way too many unforced turnovers tonight.”
