While the focus of many fans in the parish is still on playoff football, several area schools will convene in Mount Hermon for the Mount Hermon Invitational basketball tournaments kicking off today and lasting until Saturday.
Visiting schools include Pine, Franklinton, Kentwood and Sumner, and both the girls’ and boys’ teams will play for the title.
The slate includes three games today and Thursday, as well as two championship games on Saturday.
Action starts tonight with Franklinton’s girls squaring off with Sumner at 5:30, with the winner earning a berth in Saturday’s championship.
Following that game, scheduled for 6:45, Sumner’s boys will face Pine. The winner will return on Thursday to face Mount Hermon.
In Wednesday’s nightcap, slated for 8:00, Pine’s girls face Kentwood, and that winner will also face Mount Hermon on Thursday.
Thursday’s schedule begins at 5:30, with Franklinton’s boys facing Kentwood, with the winner advancing to Saturday’s championship.
Then host Mount Hermon takes the court, with the girls’ semifinal at 6:45 and the boys’ semifinal to follow at 8:00.
Saturday’s action tips off at 6 p.m. with the girls’ championship, with the boys’ championship to follow at 7:30.
