Livingston Parish Roundup: Walker Wildcats go 1 for 2 at Episcopal tournament

BATON ROUGE - The Walker Wildcats won one and lost two last week at the Episcopal Boys Invitational Tournament.

Walker opened the round-robin event with a 41-32 win over the host Knights, but then lost at the buzzer, 53-50 to McKinley, followed by a 73-54 setback at the hands of two-time defending state Class 2A champions St. Thomas Aquinas.

Down 21-18 at halftime, Walker outscored Episcopal 12-2 in the third period and maintained their cushion over the final eight minutes to post a 9-point win over the host Knights.

Senior Brennon Severio led the Wildcats with 11 points, followed by fellow senior guard Mark Moss with nine and junior Eric Carter with seven.

Freshman Bryan Bridgewater was high-scorer for Episcopal with 13 points.

McKinley 53 Walker 50

Jon Bond drilled a game-winning 3-point bucket at the buzzer, as McKinley nipped Walker 53-50. The contest was nip-and-tuck throughout, with the Wildcats holding a slim 23-21 edge at halftime. Brennon Severio was high-scorer for Walker with 15 points, followed by jeremy Porter with nine, Leroy Williams eight and Didrik Versland six. Darly Milburn paced the Panthers with 25 points.

St. Thomas 73 Walker 54

St. Thomas Aquinas blasted out to a 20-point lead in the opening the period, and maintained it, although Walker played head-to-head with the Falcons over the final three periods. Junior Gabe Brewer and senior Brennon Severio led Walker's effort with 11 points apiece, while Eric Carter chipped in with nine and Tevin Perkins six.

Zay Jackson and Brock Duncon powered STA with 23 and 21 points respectively.
