DeRidder beats Barbe on Tuesday

DeRidder, La. -

DERIDDER—The DeRidder Dragons (1-0) won their season opener against Barbe by a score of 66-53 Tuesday night.

“I’m excited that we were able to win,” Dragons head coach Mike Greene said. “We did it by committee and it would take 10 guys in and out and they contributed. Everybody scored and everybody played good team defense. I was pleased with that.”

Greene said there are things the Dragons have to get better at, but it went well considering the team had one full practice together. He noted the Dragons had too many turnovers.

“I just thought that we had a great team effort on both ends,” Greene said. “We were able to beat a good team in Barbe, but we’ve got a big game Friday night against Fairview we’ve got to get ready for.

“It’s great to be 1-0. Just got to take them one at a time.”

For the Dragons, Raimon Gates scored 13 points, Sean Freeman scored 11 points, JoDarius Jones scored nine points, Dwain Conway scored nine points, Tre O’Banion scored seven points, Charles Lewis scored five points, Rashad Robinson scored five points, LA Sanders scored four points and Ryan Greene scored three points. Robinson had four steals, Jones had four steals and three blocked shots, Greene had two steals, O’Banion had four steals, Gates had five steals and two blocked shots. Conway had seven rebounds, Gates had seven rebounds and O’Banion had seven rebounds. Robinson had three assists. The Dragons are back in action at 7 p.m. Friday against Fairview in the Rosepine Tournament
