CAMPTI — The Lakeside Warriors traveled to Campti Monday night to tip-off their 2009-10 basketball season against the Lakeview Gators.

Lakeview jumped out early and hung on for a 70-52 win.

“It’s not a good start of the season,” Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. “But it’s early, and we’re still trying to get our football players in some kind of basketball shape. Hopefully we can turn the ship around and play better in our tournament this week.”

Lakeview blew past lakeside early, as they led 21-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors out-scored the Gators 15-11 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 32-23 at the half.

Lakeside played well in the second half, but just could not get over the hump.

“They jumped on us really quick in the first quarter,” Gould said. “They made a lot of fast break points in the first part of the game that kind of puts us in a hole. Time after time we would cut the lead to eight to 10 points, only to see them push it back to 15 or 16 points.”
