HOUMA — Ellender scored 16 of the game’s first 17 pointsand used its full-court press defense to help slow down H.L. Bourgeois in a 105-49 nondistrict victory in the regular-season opener for both schools Monday.

The Patriots (1-0) started the game on an 11-0 run and led by as many as 58 in the final period. Ellender’s offensive outburst even caused the scoreboard atop the east side of the Patriots’ home court to start from zero once the team eclipsed 100 points.

They did that with three minutes still left in the game.

Trevon Lewis led the Patriots with 21 points and Chaz Williams added 12.
