STARKS – The Midland Rebels continued their early season onslaught Monday, racking up 48 point in the first half en route to a 92-46 road victory over Starks. Midland improved to 11-0 on the season with the victory heading into tonight’s contest against St. Louis in the first round of the Jennings Tournament. That game is slated for 8 o’clock.
In Monday’s game, Midland got hot early, jumping out to a 20-11 lead behind nine points from B.J. Cormier and six from Miles Prejean. Cormier continued his tear in the second quarter, dropping 11 of his game-high 25 points to help push the Rebels’ lead to 48-20 at the break. Colby Gantt took over the in third frame, scoring nine points and Allen Fontenot added five to lead the Rebels on a 25-12 run.
The reserves took the court in the fourth quarter and outscored Starks 19-14 to account for the final score. Midland drained a season-high 12 3-pointers in the contest. Cormier led the way with four while Prejean, Gantt and Michael Vincent each had two. Fontenot and Andrew Hains each had one. Gantt followed Cormier in the scoring column with 19 points while Prejean had 18 and Vincent had 10. Also contributing were Hains with nine points, Fontenot with seven and Cody Stutes and Michael Primeaux with two each.
