Southwood upsets St. Thomas More 74-67 in OT

At Southwood,  senior guard Mike Davis buried a three with 17 seconds to play to force overtime. Southwood (2-0) outscored the Cougars (1-1) 9-2 in overtime. Senior, Dean Johns, one of the state's underrated shooting guards,  had five of the nine Southwood points in overtime.

"Our players played hard and through a poor shooting night to beat a very good St. Thomas More team. Our three senior guards used their quickness to get to the basket and were able to get some key steals tonight." Southwood coach Norm Picou said. "Sophmore Eric Howard came in off the bench to provide some great defensive play at the end of the game." Picou added.

After a finishing the year tough last season, Southwood is looking to make a deep playoff run this season with a veteran and experienced squad. With a huge test in STM out the way and coming away with a win, the Cowboys and coach Picou have proved that they could be a team to watch for in 5A.
