Sophomore Josh Hagins Ties Airline School Record for Assists

Viking guard has 10 assists in season-opening win


For the second year in a row, an Airline basketball player has tied the school record with 10 assists in a season-opening win. Last year it was Rodney Hill against Haughton. Tuesday night, it was Josh Hagins in a 71-47 victory at Fair Park. Other Vikings with 10 assists in one game were Steve Kelly against Bossier High in 1975-76, Justin Collins against Bossier High in 2000-01 and Jose Limon against Northwood in 2006-07.

In other season openers Tuesday, Bossier High rolled past Springhill 78-53 and Parkway fell to Plain Dealing 72-56 in the first game at Parkway’s new gym. Yondarius Johnson led Plain Dealing with 29 points, followed by Vontaries Washington with 12 and LaCharlie Scott with 10. Thomas Moore had 13 and Garnett Darby 11 for Parkway. Leon Carswell II scored 12 points while Josh Hagins and Jalen Jackson tossed in 10 apiece in Airline’s victory over Fair Park. Keon Gilliam led the Indians with 10 points. Airline plays Christian Life in the first round of a tournament at LSU-S Thursday at 8 p.m. Devonte Francis scored 20 points to lead Bossier High to its victory over Springhill. Jalan West added 15, Lyndale James 13 and Joseph James 10 in the Bearkats’ balanced attack.
